RAWALPINDI: Benazir Bhutto Hospital administration has ignored seniority in the appointment of a director and favoured a junior officer for the position.
Former director of the Emergency Department Dr Rafiq had resigned from his position and was replaced by Dr Muhammad Hussain. The new director was being pressurised by the Medical Superintendent and also stepped down.
It is necessary for the Director Emergency Department in public hospitals to be a senior technical officer as he is also a member of the procurement committee.
Well placed sourced revealed that Dr Zafar, a Grade-17 junior officer, has now been appointed to the position in violation of rules and regulations and ignoring seniority.
According to rules, the Director of the Emergency Department should be Grade-19 officer. The appointment of junior doctors at key positions had exposed the prevalence of factions within the hospital.
Earlier Dr Shaheen was serving at the position. After his resignation, the medical superintendent has not appointed any qualified and deserving officer at the position. The appointment of Dr Zafar has deprived senior doctors from serving in the position.
