Neil Nitin Mukesh was once a rising star in Bollywood, making a name for himself with films like Johnny Gaddaar, Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, and Saaho. However, in recent years, he has struggled to find work, leading many to wonder: Is there an unseen force keeping him out of the industry?
According to Indian media, some fans even speculate if a Bollywood bigwig, like Shah Rukh Khan, has anything to do with it. While there is no direct claim against SRK, Neil’s recent revelations about his career struggles paint a grim picture of how the film industry operates.

In a candid interview with Hindi Rush, Neil admitted that he still actively messages people to ask for work. He shared that despite being personally acquainted with many casting directors, he has been ignored for years. According to Neil, the industry’s approach has left him feeling like just another option among hundreds.
“I’ve become friends with the idea of struggle,” he said, emphasizing that while he cannot guarantee monetary returns, he still has the talent to deliver a hit. Neil further revealed that even after working in the industry for two decades, he still has to start from scratch after every film.

“I message people asking for work. They reply instantly, saying, ‘Yes, Neil, we’ll keep you in mind,’ but that’s where it ends. It’s my job to remind them that I exist.” He also pointed out how the industry has changed over the years, saying, “Earlier, maybe two or three newcomers would be launched in a few years. Now, there’s a new face in the industry every other week.”
Despite starring in over 30 films and working with some of Bollywood’s best directors, Neil continues to struggle for roles. “You need to maintain a balance. Be visible, but not too visible. Maybe my skin tone doesn’t fit the kind of films being made today. Who knows what casting directors are thinking? It hurts, but I’ve come to accept it.”
