ISLAMABAD: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairperson Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal has tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday night.
According to a notification issued in this regard, the NDMA Chairperson has been in quarantine since November 9 and is currently undergoing treatment.
Lt General Afzal will carry out his official duties from his home, the notification added. Earlier on Thursday, Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth died of coronavirus at the age of 50.
According to details, Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth was battling coronavirus and succumbed to the deadly illness earlier today. The PHC’s top judge was undergoing treatment at Islamabad’s Kulsum International Hospital.
Prominent personalities who had contracted the virus so far include National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, PM’s aide on Health Dr. Zafar Mirza, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Governor Sindh Imran Ismail, PPP leader Saeed Ghani, and Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid. However, many of them have recovered from the disease.
