ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has launched door-to-door campaign to vaccinate people against COVID-19.
Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar made the announcement while addressing a news conference along with Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan.
He said under the first phase of the campaign, 55,000 mobile teams will vaccinate people at their homes for the next two months. He informed that 35 million people are expected to be vaccinated in the first phase.
“If you haven’t been vaccinated, then get yourself inoculated. If you are have gotten the first dose, then get the second dose and if you have gotten both and it has been more than six months, then please get the booster dose,” he urged.
Sharing data about vaccination so far, the minister said 80 million people have been fully vaccinated while ten million others received a single dose. He said 2.6 million people also received the booster dose. The minister again stressed that the only way to stay safe from COVID-19 is through vaccination.
Asad further urged the people to take advantage of the facilities made available by the federal government for protection against the pandemic. He stressed the sooner the population gets vaccinated, the sooner the country can return to normal. “Protect yourself and those around you.”
He elaborated that the data available to NCOC showed that towns and cities which had a higher vaccinated population saw less Covid-19 cases. “Even if those who were vaccinated got infected by the virus, they fared much better than those who were not.”
Asad Umar said it has been noticed during the current fifth wave of COVID-19 that the people in the areas with high vaccination rate have minor symptoms of the disease.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Faisal Sultan urged people to welcome the mobile vaccination teams at homes and get vaccinated.
“There is still time to get yourself vaccinated. It is saving you from being critically ill from the virus. The data recommends a booster jab as it would improve immunity,” he said.
He said the fully vaccinated people are also recommended to have a booster dose six months after their vaccination. He said like the first two doses, the booster dose is also completely free.
