ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has decided to increase restrictions and tightens the implementation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) amid the third wave of the novel coronavirus.
The COVID-19 watchdog met today (Monday) to review the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country. The meeting was chaired by the federal minister of planning and development and NCOC chief Asad Umar.
Taking to Twitter, Asad Umar wrote, “In the NCOC meeting this morning we decided to increase restrictions of activities contributing to a sharp increase in COVID-19 positivity.”
“The provincial & Islamabad administrations were also directed to tighten implementation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) and a crackdown on violations which are taking place,” the planning minister added.

The number of new cases of COVID-19 continued to rise this week, as the positivity ratio hit 8.43 percent today (Monday). The number of active cases jumped to 33,070 with 3,669 more people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, another 40 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total death tally to 13,757 across the country.
