Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled plans for the province’s first-ever “Nawaz Sharif Internet City” in Lahore, aimed at fostering innovation, advancing digital literacy, and strengthening the province’s information technology and education infrastructure.
Speaking at the Anatolia Diplomacy Forum, Maryam Nawaz highlighted her government’s ongoing reforms since taking office in 2024, particularly in education and technology. She emphasized that as Pakistan’s largest province, Punjab is leading the way in modernizing its systems and institutions.
Maryam revealed that schools across the province are being upgraded with modern facilities and digital tools, with a strong emphasis on promoting girls’ education. She proudly shared that 50,000 scholarships have been distributed so far, half of which were awarded to female students.
Launching Nawaz Sharif Internet City
The “Nawaz Sharif Internet City” project in Lahore is envisioned as a cutting-edge hub for tech innovation, IT training, and entrepreneurship. The initiative aims to equip the younger generation with skills to meet global digital demands, while also creating a supportive ecosystem for startups and IT professionals.
She further announced the merit-based recruitment of 30,000 teachers and the introduction of training programs to improve the quality of education.
In addition to educational reforms, Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring timely and fair justice for the people of Punjab, stating that a reformed justice system is also central to her vision of a modern and progressive province.
