The third national anti-polio campaign of the year will formally begin tomorrow. The Prime Minister’s focal person for polio eradication, Ayesha Raza Farooq, inaugurated the campaign by administering drops to children.
According to the National EOC, during the national anti-polio campaign from May 26 to June 1, the target is to administer drops to more than 45 million children. The goal of the campaign is the complete eradication of the polio virus from Pakistan.
The polio campaign is being conducted simultaneously in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Special attention is being given to border areas and nomadic populations.
Ayesha Raza Farooq stated that polio eradication is a national priority and a collective responsibility. The continuity of the anti-polio campaign is essential for boosting immunity and preventing the virus. Parents must also give their children additional doses of vitamin A along with the polio vaccine.
Polio is a serious disease that can cause lifelong paralysis in children under the age of five. This is why, during every anti-polio campaign, the public is instructed to ensure their young children receive the polio drops.
On the other hand, in several areas, a significant number of people still do not prefer to have their children vaccinated against polio. The reason could be ignorance or the baseless propaganda spread against the polio campaign. Authorities should take adequate measures against such negative factors.
