MULTAN: Northern registered a comfortable seven-wicket win over Balochistan in the 14th game of the National T20 Cup at Multan Cricket Stadium today (Tuesday).
Northern successfully chased the 157-run target in 17.5 overs, thanks to a 42-run knock by wicketkeeper-batsman Rohail Nazir. While chasing, the Northern side lost opener Ali Imran early who was bowled by bowler Khurram Shehzad.
Rohail Nazir then joined opener Umar Amin for a lucrative 52-run partnership that provided Northern with a solid foundation. Umar Amin was later removed by leg-spinner Yasir Shah after scoring 30 runs.
Yasir Shah then squeezed a mistake out of Nazir who was stumped by wicketkeeper Bismillah Khan. All-rounder Hammad Azam joined Asif Ali to power Northern over the line with 13 deliveries to spare.
Yasir Shah took two wickets for Balochistan in four overs while giving away 32 runs. Earlier, Balochistan captain Haris Sohail scored a half-century as the side finished their 20 overs at a score of 156-6.
Haris Sohail played a captain’s knock of 51 off 41 deliveries with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. All-rounder Akbar-ur-Rehman chipped in with his 38-run knock which came off 32 balls.
Veteran fast-bowlers Sohail Tanvir and Mohammad Amir took two wickets each in the match. The defending champions have won all of their five matches in the tournament so far.
