ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly will meet today to hold a session on the prevailing situation in the country due to the coronavirus pandemic.
During the last NA session that was held earlier this week, President Dr. Arif Alvi summoned the gathering and discussed the economic and health crisis in the country resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri chaired the session as Speaker Asad Qaiser has been suffering from the COVID-19.
All members of Parliament were instructed to take a coronavirus test before attending the sessions. It later emerged that two members had tested positive for the infection.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam, Senators Raja Zafarul Haq, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Saleem Zia, Abdul Qayum and others tested negative.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 37,218 in Pakistan, while the death toll stands at 770.
According to National Command and Control Center (NCOC), as many as 9,695 patients have recovered from the disease, while 153 are said to be critical as the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
About 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
