The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) announced the launch of Pakistan’s inaugural locally assembled digital identity kit, a product of collaborative efforts between NADRA Technologies Limited (NTL) and the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), according to a tweet from the database regulator.
Described as an all-in-one solution, the kit is designed for comprehensive identity enrollment and verification, boasting cutting-edge features such as a high-resolution camera, real-time iris recognition, and multifunctional fingerprint scanning with liveness detection.
Additionally, the kit is equipped with a machine-readable passport reader and barcode scanner to facilitate efficient ID checks. Running on the Android operating system, it offers robust connectivity options including 3G/4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
Encased in a rugged IP65-rated casing, the kit is powered by a durable 10000mAh battery, making it suitable for various applications such as national ID programs, voter registration, border control, law enforcement, and customer services.
NADRA expressed excitement about showcasing the kit at the ID4D Africa Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, scheduled for next week. Plans are underway to deploy the kit in NADRA’s registration operations and make it commercially available shortly.
