ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) on Monday unanimously passed a resolution to condemn the killing of Arshad Sharif in Kenya, seeking a comprehensive investigation into the senior journalist’s killing.
Pakistan’s senior journalist and renowned anchor Arshad Sharif was killed in a shooting incident near Nairobi, Kenya late on Sunday night.
Later, Kenyan media reported that Sharif was shot by the local police in a case of ‘mistaken identity.’
The National Assembly adopted a resolution denouncing Sharif’s murder in the capital of Kenya and offering the dead journalist’s family its condolences.
The House also sought a comprehensive investigation into the journalist’s killing through the resolution.
Arshad Sharif was shot dead on the outskirts of Kenya’s Nairobi city on Sunday night.
He was travelling from the country’s Magadi town to Nairobi when the tragedy happened. Detailing the incident, the Kenyan media quoting the police said that the manned roadblock had received information to intercept a car similar to the one, Arshad Sharif and his driver were in, following a carjacking incident in Nairobi in which a child was allegedly taken hostage.
According to Kenyan media, Arshad Sharif and his driver allegedly violated a roadblock, and subsequently were shot and killed by police.
