A gas line allegedly caught fire during work in a private housing society in the Korangi Creek area of Karachi, however, the gas company has clarified that no such line passes through here, so it is still a mystery.
The fire near Korangi Crossing in Karachi could not be controlled even after 7 hours; 10 fire tenders are busy extinguishing the fire.
According to fire brigade officials, fire brigades have been called from all over the city to extinguish the fire, foam is being used due to the high intensity of the fire.
The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) spokesperson clarified that the company has no installation near the Korangi Crossing. There is no gas pipeline either around the fire site, the spokesperson further noted.
Fire Officer Muhammad Zafar says that the fire is mysterious, it is not clear whose line it is, water was being thrown on the fire but it was flying back.
He said that the pit from which the fire is coming out needs to be closed by pouring soil, soil needs to be dumped using a dumper or helicopter.
Flames and clouds of smoke can be seen from various areas, including Defense Phase 8.
On the other hand, according to the police, the fire broke out in the gas pipeline itself, and the gas line was damaged during water boring.
Governor Sindh Kamran Tesori has contacted Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi over the phone and directed him to make immediate provision of the helicopter to control the fire at Korangi Crossing.
Governor Sindh also spoke to the Chief Fire Officer and the engineer present at the scene.
Kamran Tesori assured the fire officer to contact the relevant authorities for the provision of a helicopter.
