A 34-year-old man from Basti, Uttar Pradesh, converted from Islam to Hinduism to marry his girlfriend of ten years. Saddam Hussain, who changed his name to Shivshankar Soni, and his girlfriend, who is around 30 years old, tied the knot on Sunday evening in a temple, following Hindu customs.
This development comes after the woman lodged a police complaint three days ago, accusing Saddam and his family of rape, coercing her into an abortion, and threatening her life. Based on her allegations, the police registered a case against Saddam and his family.
However, following the couple’s marriage, both Saddam and the woman clarified that they had decided to marry of their own free will. According to police, the two had been in a relationship for ten years but faced opposition due to religious differences. The woman had repeatedly pressured Saddam to marry her, but his family had refused to accept the union due to their different faiths.
Despite the previous accusations, both individuals have now stated that they wanted to spend their lives together. The police are continuing to investigate the case, though both parties have expressed their commitment to each other.
