The Karachi Traffic Police (KTP) has released a comprehensive traffic management plan for the 8th to 10th of Muharram, coinciding with Ashura on Sunday, to ensure public safety and smooth vehicular movement.
According to the KTP, the Muharram processions on all three days will begin at Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainiya Iraniyan Imam Bargah, following their traditional routes. Due to security considerations, MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Guru Mandir to Tower.
Procession routes are outlined as follows:
- From Nazimabad: via Lasbela, Albela, Garden Jamaat Khana, Soldier Bazaar No. 3, reaching Numaish.
- From Liaquatabad: through Tin Hatti, Jahangir Road, Guru Mandir to Numaish.
- From Society: direct to Numaish via the light signal.
- From Gulistan-e-Johar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal: via University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, and Society Light Signal to Numaish.
Vehicles offering sabeel, niaz, or tabarruk may enter the procession route at Tower/Memon Mosque.
For District Central, alternative routes include:
- From Nazimabad: proceed via Lasbela Chowk and Nishtar Road to Garden.
- From Liaquatabad: turn at Tin Hatti to Lasbela, then left to Central Jail via Martin Road.
- From Hassan Square: follow Kashmir Road beneath Jail Flyover to Shahrah-e-Quaideen, or via Tin Hatti and Nishtar Road to Lasbela.
In District East:
- From Sharea Faisal: travel through Shahrah-e-Quaideen and Society Light Signal to Kashmir Road and onwards.
Additional redirections include:
- From Central Jail Gate via Jamshed Road to Gurumandir: divert through Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar.
- From Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road: reroute via Uncle Saria, Gul Plaza, and Coast Guard/Holy Family Hospital.
- Heavy traffic from Super Highway and Gulberg will be rerouted via Liaquatabad, Nazimabad Chowrangi, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, and Shershah to Maripur and back. No vehicle will be permitted on MA Jinnah Road beyond Gurumandir Chowk without a valid procession sticker.
