Karachi: Mufti Rafi Usmani, the Mufti-e- Azam Pakistan and President of Darul Uloom Karachi passed away on Friday evening after prolonged illness. He was 86.
Maulana Rafi’s father Muhammad Shafi Deobandi was a Grand Mufti of Darul Uloom Deoband and one of the pioneer figures of the Pakistan Movement.
The renowned religious scholar Rafi Usmani was the elder brother of well-known Mufti Taqi Usmani.
He was the eldest son of Maulana Mufti Muhammad Shafi, the founder of Darul Uloom Karachi. He was born in 1936 in Deoband when his father Mufti Muhammad Shafi was a teacher in the famous Darul Uloom Deoband.
Mufti Rafi Usmani was also the author of many books. He was considered among the leading scholars of Pakistan.
He had been ill for several months. The funeral will be held in the graveyard located in the premises of Darul Uloom Karachi.
