Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) says more than 10,000 Pakistani nationals have been arrested in Iran this year for illegally fleeing abroad.
According to FIA officials, from January to December 15 this year, 10,454 Pakistani nationals were arrested in Iran, who entered Iran through non-traditional routes in Balochistan.
Pakistani officials say the men were handed over to Pakistan by the Iranian government in the border town of Taftan in Chagai district after being arrested at different times.
According to the FIA, besides Pakistanis through Balochistan, Afghan nationals also try to go to the European country in search of a better future, but a large number of them are arrested in Iran.
According to officials, in 2024, the arrest rate in Iran was higher than in 2023, the number of Pakistanis arrested in Iran last year was 8,272.
According to FIA data, more than 62,000 Pakistani nationals were arrested for illegally entering Iran from Pakistan in the five years from 2020 to 2024.
According to officials, most of the Pakistani nationals arrested in Iran are from Punjab, 5 districts of Balochistan Chagai, Washak, Panjgur, Kech and Gwadar share borders with Iran.
Apart from Pakistan, people from Afghanistan also arrive in these districts, human traffickers first transport them to Iran and from there to Greece via Turkey.
According to government officials, a large number of people used to enter Iran from Kech and Gwadar in the past, but due to militant attacks there, most people now go through Chagai and Washak.
According to officials, while a large number of people are arrested while trying to go abroad, many people also lose their lives due to the difficulties of the way.
