The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 Hijri moon is being held today in Quetta, as reported by national media on Thursday.
According to the official announcement, the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, will preside over the meeting.
On this occasion, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees across the country will also hold separate meetings at their respective centers, in which evidence regarding the moon sighting will be collected.
Earlier, SUPARCO (Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission) had predicted a strong possibility of the Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 Hijri moon being sighted on the evening of June 26, while the new Islamic year is expected to begin on June 27.
According to SUPARCO, the Day of Ashura, i.e., 10th Muharram-ul-Haram, is likely to fall on Sunday, July 6. Their spokesperson stated that the Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 Hijri moon will have been born on June 25 at 3:32 PM, and by sunset on June 26, its age will be approximately 28 hours and 15 minutes.
The statement further said that in coastal areas, the expected interval between sunset and moonset will be 75 minutes, which provides a suitable and sufficient time for moon sighting.
