ISLAMABAD: The crescent for the moon of Shawal has been not been sighted and therefore, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee met to sight the moon of Shawal 1443 AH. The main meeting of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad at the Ministry of Religious Affairs chaired by Maulana Abdul Kabir Azad. A meeting of the Zonal committees was also held in Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and Lahore.
Maulana Azad announced the final decision about the sighting of the crescent, saying that no credible eyewitness over the sighting of the moon was received from any part of the country.
The Zonal committees in Punjab and Sindh did not receive any eyewitness to sight the crescent in their respective areas. The time of citing the moon in Lahore and Karachi has finished and the moon has not been sighted there.
At present, the age of the moon is 17 hours, and according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the age of the moon must be 19 hours in order to sight it.
The PMD had earlier said that there are no chances of the Shawwal moon being sighted today and therefore, Eidul Fitr may fall on Tuesday in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, South Waziristan in Pakistan and Afghanistan are celebrated Eid today on Sunday after sighting the Shawwal moon yesterday.
