PESHAWAR: Member of the National Assembly Munir Orakzai who was earlier tested positive for the novel coronavirus has passed away today due to cardiac arrest.
Munir Orakzai was tested positive for COVID-19 in April and had fallen ill during a session of the Lower House. However, he recovered last month from the deadly virus.
The lawmaker’s nephew Irfanullah confirmed the news that they got to know that the MMA lawmaker had passed away today early in the morning due to the cardiac arrest.
Irfanullah stated that Orakzai’s funeral will be held today at 3 pm in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district. Moreover, last month, Shaheen Raza, a 65-years old PTI MPA in the Punjab Assembly, also died of COVID-19.
According to Gujranwala Deputy Commissioner Sohail Akhtar, Raza was under treatment at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital. She was initially admitted to Gujranwala’s Civil Hospital but was later shifted to Mayo Hospital. Raza reportedly contracted the virus while visiting a field hospital.
Pakistan has reported over 76,000 known coronavirus cases and nearly 1,600 fatalities so far.
