A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a sanitation worker at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Lahore, according to police on Tuesday.
The horrific incident occurred on Monday on the third floor of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, sparking protests by students and female doctors outside the hospital, demanding swift justice for the young victim.
The girl’s mother accused the hospital administration of attempting to cover up the incident. When she raised an alarm, security guards apprehended the 22-year-old suspect and handed him over to Mozang police.
According to Lahore police, as the sanitation worker was committing the crime, the child’s cries alerted nearby patients’ attendants, who overpowered him and turned him over to the police after administering a beating.
The girl was transferred to the emergency ward for treatment.
