Meta is planning a multibillion-dollar global underwater project spanning 31000 miles, connecting the US, India, South Africa, Brazil and other regions.
The tech company announced that Project Waterworth involves a 50,000 km (31,000-mile) subsea cable, exceeding the Earth’s circumference in length.
According to Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, this cable will be the longest to date using a 24 fiber-pair system, providing higher capacity and supporting its AI initiatives.

In a blog post, Meta said: “Project Waterworth will bring industry-leading connectivity to the US, India, Brazil, South Africa, and other key regions. This project will foster economic cooperation, enhance digital inclusion, and create opportunities for technological development in these areas.”
