Men’s T20 World Cup is now in full swing with teams vying for the coveted title in cricket’s shortest format. The ninth edition, spanning the West Indies and the USA, offers the highest prize money in tournament history, with winners set to receive a minimum of $2.45 million.
Featuring 20 teams, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will stretch across 28 days and nine venues, making it the most expansive event of its kind. Runners-up stand to gain a significant $1.28 million, while semi-finalists will pocket $787,500 each.
Even teams exiting after the second round will secure $382,500 each, with those ranking between ninth and 12th place receiving $247,500. Teams placed 13th to 20th will earn $225,000 each.
Moreover, teams will receive an additional $31,154 for each match won, excluding the semi-finals and finals.
The tournament will commence with 40 matches in the initial round, leading to the Super 8s. Semi-finals are slated for Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, with the grand finale set for the historic Kensington Oval in Barbados.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice emphasized the event’s significance, stating, “This event is historic in so many ways, so it is fitting that the prize money for players reflects that. Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by the players in what we’re hoping to be an Out of This World event.”
