KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday granted big relief to Pakistan People’s Party leader Sharjeel Memon in a mega corruption by accepting his review petition and permanently removing his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
A two judges bench headed by K K Agha conducted the proceedings today during which lawyers representing the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the federal government told the court that they had no objection over Sharjeel Memon’s prayer seeking removal of his name from ECL.
Defense Council Raj Ali Wahid told the bench that while granting bail to Sharjeel Memon, the court had ordered to put his name on ECL, however, he (Memon) on the one hand had been regularly appearing in the court to face trial while on the other hand, had to seek repeated permission for going abroad.
It is pertinent to mention here that the PPP leader along with other accused is facing charges of massive embezzlement, to the tune of Rs. 5.5 billion, in the funds of Sindh Information Department. He was indicted in this particular graft case on February 15, 2018. He is also accused of possessing assets beyond known sources of income.
