Cricket is undisputedly the most popular sport across the country. The sport is adored across the nation and players have earned fame globally.
Pakistan has immense talent in cricket which still needs to be explored. Sufyan Usmani of Karachi Zone U-19 is a rising star who dreams of achieving big for Pakistan.
MM News spoke to the young left-handed batsman.
MM News: What motivated you to start playing cricket?
Sufyan Usmani: I was very fond of watching cricket since childhood. I liked Shahid Afridi’s playing style. After watching him, I also became fond of playing cricket.
I started playing at Moin Khan Academy. There was an event on August 14 where I scored a century. This made me more interested in playing cricket.
MM News: Who do you follow as a left-handed batsman?
Sufyan Usmani: I don’t like left-handed batsmen. Babar Azam and Virat Kohli are my favourite players. I slos like Saud Shakeel and Haris Sohail.
MM News: Which senior batsman’s technique do you like the most?
Sufyan Usmani: I like Abdullah Shafiq’s technique. I think a good technique is very important for any player and I am also working hard on it.
MM News: Which format of cricket do you like, Test, ODI, or T20?
Sufyan Usmani: I prefer ODI cricket but since T20 is now more focused, I practice it more.
MM News: Which bowler worries you the most while batting?
Sufyan Usmani: It is a bit difficult while playing a spinner.
MM News: How many milestones have you achieved so far?
Sufyan Usmani: I have been a part of the Under-13 team from Sindh. I have also played in the Under-16 team.
MM News: Are you also fond of watching cricket?
Sufyan Usmani: I developed a passion for playing cricket after watching it. I watch PSL and World Cup with dedication. Karachi Kings is my favorite team in PSL.
MM News: Which cricket league do you follow the most?
Sufyan Usmani: IPL, because the players bat aggressively that there is a lot to learn from.
MM News: Do you prefer batting, fielding or bowling?
Sufyan Usmani: I love batting. I just want someone to keep bowling and I keep batting.
MM News: How do you take care of your fitness?
Sufyan Usmani: A cricketer has to take care of his fitness a lot. I also focus on my fitness. I spend at least seven hours per day on my fitness.
MM News: What is your message for other young cricketers?
Sufyan Usmani: My message is that if his dream is to play cricket for Pakistan, then he should give full attention to cricket. Instead of joining an academy, you can practice under the supervision of a coach from whom you can learn better.
