Toshkana has become the talk of the town nowadays, in which former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan has been sentenced to three years in jail and disqualified for 5 years over corrupt practices. MM News has arranged a conversation with a journalist named Rana Abrar Khalid, who exposed the Toshakhana scam.
The details are of the conversation are as followed:
MM News: Rana Abrar how do you feel after the verdict in the Toshakhana case?
Rana Abrar: I’m feeling good as it a pride for any journalist when his or her story proves right and the accused in sentenced as journalists are impartial and they cannot be anyone’s party. I earlier said that this is a big story in which Imran Khan’s corrupt practices are exposed. After filing the story I was criticised, and abused by the PTI supporters and even Imran Khan said a ‘mad’ journalist is after him, he added.
MM Newes: Please share the details of the consequences and difficulties you faced after exposing the Toshakhana case
Rana Abrar: There are many journalists in the market who are claiming that they broke the news of the Toshakhana scandal. I don’t want credit. In August 2020 some of my sources said that there is a big blunder in the Toshakhana record and evidence was forward which was incomplete. Then I asked for details from the government under the Right to Information Act.
After asking for details from the government, I and my family were harassed. I was expelled from my job twice on the orders of the PTI government. My mother was threatened.
My younger brother, Rana Anawar Khalid, sacrificed a lot after the Toshakhana scandal. Three bogus FIRs were registered against him in Punjab.
MM News: After so many threats, did you feel that the Toshakhana case should be set aside?
Rana Abrar: No, never, because whatever was being done against me and my family was being done by Niazis and I have blood of Rana Partap in my veins.
MM News: Did you get any offer from the PTI government for leaving the case?
Rana Abrar: Secretary Cabinet Division Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera telephoned me and invited to tea at his office and then he asked me to withdraw the Toshakhana case at any cost as directed by the Principal Secretary to then PM Imran Khan, Azam Khan.
MM News: How do you see the political future of PTI after Imran Khan’s arrest
Rana Abrar: The future of any political party depends on the vision and the policies and programs. What do you expect from a party which leader says that U-Turn is essential?
MM News: Please tell our viewers that do you have a personal issue with Imran Khan or pursued the Toshakhana case as a neutral journalist.
Rana Abrar: What personal issue would I have with Imran Khan? Over 30,000 journalists were unemployed during the PTI government rule.
