The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has formed a two-member medical board to examine Zahir Jaffer, the prime accused in the Noor Muqaddam murder case.
The move comes after the Adiala Jail superintendent has formally written to the PIMS hospital administration, requesting the formation of a medical board to assess Zahir Jaffer’s physical and psychological condition over his clemency appeal.
In response, the hospital appointed Dr Shafqat Nawaz and Dr Aamir Naveed as members of the board, with Dr Nawaz designated as its head.
Noor Muqaddam, the daughter of a former diplomat, was brutally murdered in July 2021, sparking nationwide outrage.
Zahir Jaffer, the main suspect, has been in custody since his arrest, with the trial ongoing.
The medical board’s findings could play a crucial role in the judicial proceedings, particularly regarding Jaffer’s physical and mental health evaluations.
