ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has denied media reports that he is quitting as the chairman of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
The PDM chief referred to news items the news on various media channels as “baseless and unfounded” and said they hold no degree of truth. He said that he was not quitting the chairmanship of PDM. He said those spreading such false news are scared of PDM’s popularity. He denied any rift in the ranks of PDM through such false news reports.
He added that no such talks were held with Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari. He went on claimed that PDM has achieved most of its and several important decisions will be taken in the PDM’s summit on February 4.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman was elected PDM chief on October 3, 2020 after his name was proposed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to head the opposition alliance and was endorsed by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz has also refuted speculation of internal rifts within the PDM, saying the alliance had “exemplary coordination”.
Speaking to media at the residence of Khokhar brothers, the PML-N leader said that the government’s desire to see the opposition’s alliance fall victim to internal rifts would yield no results.
She said that disagreement on any matter within the PDM is resolved in an amicable manner. Maryam urged PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to present his suggestion on bringing about an in-house change with other members of the alliance.
Referring to the Broadsheet case a ‘fraudsheet’, Maryam She lashed out at Justice (retd) Azmat Saeed, who is heading the inquiry commission to probe the case, and said he should recuse himself.
She said the former judge was involved in conspiracies against the PML-N government and was an employee of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) when the Broadsheet agreement was signed.
