In a startling case of matrimonial fraud, a 23-year-old woman has been arrested by Rajasthan Police for allegedly marrying 25 men across multiple states in just seven months, as reported by Indian media.
According to details, identified as Anuradha Paswan, she was captured in Bhopal by Sawai Madhopur police and has since earned the moniker “loot-and-scoot bride” due to her serial scams. Indian authorities report that Anuradha was part of a well-coordinated marriage fraud ring.
She posed as a prospective bride, entered into legal marriages with unsuspecting men, and then disappeared within days—taking with her valuables including gold, cash, and electronics. The scam came to light after Vishnu Sharma of Sawai Madhopur filed a complaint on May 3.
Sharma had paid Rs 2 lakh to agents Sunita and Pappu Meena to find him a bride. Anuradha married him in a court ceremony on April 20 but fled with his valuables by May 2. Investigating officer Meetha Lal revealed that Anuradha had carefully honed her con. Her background includes working in a hospital in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh, and separating from her former husband after a domestic conflict.
According to Meetha Lal, after moving to Bhopal, she became involved with a gang that orchestrated marriage scams. The group operated through agents who used platforms like WhatsApp to advertise potential brides, charging clients between Rs 2 to Rs 5 lakh.
Following her disappearance from Sharma’s residence, Anuradha reportedly married another man named Gabbar in Bhopal, defrauding him of Rs 2 lakh as well. Her arrest came after police planted an undercover officer as a potential groom. Once her photo was shared by one of the agents, officers seized the opportunity and detained her.
Police have identified several other suspected members of the gang, including Roshni, Raghubir, Golu, Majboot Singh Yadav, and Arjan, all from different parts of Bhopal.
This case underscores the critical importance of thorough background checks, legal due diligence before marriage, and greater public awareness about matrimonial fraud in India. According to Indian media, engaging only with verified matrimonial services and steering clear of unregistered agents or cash-based arrangements are essential precautions to avoid such scams.
