Karachi’s Board of Secondary Education (BSEK) has decided to postpone the remaining ninth and tenth-grade exams originally scheduled from May 21-27 due to the looming threat of a heatwave. This decision follows the alert issued by both the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
In light of these circumstances, the exams will now resume on May 28, 2024, as per the revised schedule. The specific dates for the postponed papers will be announced later, as stated in the notification.
This postponement mirrors a similar action taken by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), which recently deferred its exams slated to commence on May 22 for five days, now starting on May 27. The citizens of Karachi are currently enduring a sweltering heatwave, with temperatures expected to rise significantly over the next ten days.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the country may face three separate heatwaves in various cities within the next 25 days, underscoring the urgency of these measures to protect the well-being of students amidst challenging weather conditions.
