KARACHI: A massive fire broke out in a garment factory near Godam Chowrangi in Karachi’s Korangi area on Sunday morning, rescue sources said.
They added that after getting information a number of fire engines reached the spot to control the fire. Rescue officials said the fire started from the packaging hall on the first floor of the building and then spread to the second floor.
The Pakistan Navy fire engines joined the KMC fire brigade to put out the fire. The firefighters faced difficulties due to huge plumes of smoke. However, the efforts are underway to bring the fire under control.
No one was hurt in the incident that occurred in the thickly populated industrial area. The cause of the fire remained unclear whereas the rescue teams described the incident as a third-degree blaze.
Police and Rangers have been deployed outside the factory and no one except firefighters are allowed to enter the premises.
According to the fire brigade, it’s feared that if the fire is not put out it may spread to adjacent buildings. All fire hydrants in the city have been alerted and an emergency has been declared.
Police sources said no one was inside the factory when the fire erupted. It caused damage worth millions of rupees. The cause has yet to be ascertained.
