Maryam Nawaz orders 240 electric buses for South Punjab districts

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz directed that 240 electric buses be given on a priority basis to 24 districts of South Punjab. She stated that the culture of giving every new thing to big cities must change, and that villages will be brought at par with major cities.

A special meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, where she was briefed on the Department of Transport’s projects, and the progress of the electric bus project was reviewed.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif ordered that more e-buses be provided to the districts of South Punjab and directed that electric buses be supplied to remote districts on a priority basis.

Maryam Nawaz said the culture of giving every new thing to big cities must change, villages will be brought equal to big cities. The Chief Minister of Punjab directed to provide 240 electric buses to 24 districts on a priority basis and said that these 240 e-buses arriving in the first phase would be provided to the districts.

In the briefing, it was stated that 500 e-buses will be provided for Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Rawalpindi from August to October, while from November to December, another 600 electric buses will arrive in Punjab. Under the Punjab Clean Air Program, 400 electric buses will be provided to Sheikhupura, Nankana, Kasur, and Lahore.

The meeting also reviewed in detail the progress of the Gujranwala BRT project. It was briefed that 80 feeder buses would be operated to connect the entire city and suburbs to the BRT in Gujranwala. About 28 stations will be established on the nearly 22 km long BRT system from Rahwali to Eminabad.

A proposal to extend the Gujranwala BRT to Ghakhar Mandi was also reviewed. On the Gujranwala BRT system, two-way transport will be available every eight minutes.

The Chief Minister of Punjab directed to control traffic on the Gujranwala BRT route through a smart solution. The meeting was informed that four electric bus depots will be established for the Gujranwala BRT.

In a meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz, progress on the Orange Line and Red Line transport systems in Faisalabad was reviewed. The briefing stated that the Red Line bus service will be 23.4 kilometers long with 24 stations, accommodating more than 185,000 passengers. The Orange Line will be 29 kilometers long with 21 stations, benefiting more than 111,000 passengers daily.

On Maryam Nawaz’s instructions, the route from FIEDMC to Salami Chowk was also included. The Chief Minister directed the Department of Transport to start all projects of public benefit without delay.

The Chief Minister of Punjab ordered that the routes of e-buses be determined keeping in view public travel needs. The meeting also reviewed the transport system routes in Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
