LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz has fallen sick and has suspended all political activities.
This was confirmed by PML-N spokesperson Mariyum Aurangzeb. She said Mariyum Nawaz is suffering from fever and sore throat while she has been advised complete rest by doctors.
She further said Maryam Nawaz’s coronavirus test has been conducted as a precautionary measure.
“The vice president has been unwell for a while now but she still went to the Lahore High Court for her hearing,” she said. Consequently, she said Maryam Nawaz has suspended all political activities for the next four days.
On March 25, the National Accountability Bureau postponed Maryam’s hearing over coronavirus concerns. The decision to postpone her appearance was taken keeping in view the “public interest” and the National Command and Operation Centre’s instructions, NAB said in a statement.
Maryam was summoned to the NAB office in a land possession case on March 26. The PML-N vice-president secured pre-arrest bail from the Lahore High Court on March 24.
Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is also suffering from fever for the past two days, however, his COVID-19 test has come negative.
According to the JUI-F spokesman, the PDM head was not feeling well and had undergone a COVID-19 test after suffering from fever in the past two days. He said Maulana Fazlur Rehman tested negative for the virus and is currently staying at his residence in DI Khan.
The spokesman further said that the doctors have advised the JUI-F’s chief to stop all political activities and take complete rest. He said was tired from his hectic schedule and is currently taking a break from all activities
Yesterday, Maryam Nawaz lashed out at the PPP for the differences in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). Maryam even claimed that the Senate opposition leader has been selected by the federal government. “The lines have been drawn now,” she exclaimed.
She said that she feels sad that they compromised their democratic principles for a small post. “Opposition leader in the Senate is a very small post. You didn’t have to ask BAP for their votes. If you wanted the post so bad then you could’ve asked Nawaz Sharif.”
“This is the first time that the government has elected, or I should say selected, the leader of the opposition,” she added. She claimed that Asif Ali Zardari offered to make Pervaiz Elahi the next Punjab chief minister but Nawaz Sharif rejected the offer.
