Elizabeth Olsen, widely recognized for playing Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently spoke about the gap between her career choices and her personal preferences in film, as reported by international media.
During an appearance on the Wild Card podcast, she shared that although she’s proud of her work in the Marvel franchise, big-budget superhero films aren’t the kind of art she naturally gravitates toward or feels deeply connected to.
“I don’t think I’ve always chosen roles that align with my personal taste, and that’s something I’m still trying to communicate when I meet people,” Olsen said. She added that in professional settings, she often feels the urge to clarify her genuine interests in film and literature — ones that diverge from the blockbuster world she’s known for.
Reflecting on her ten-year journey with Marvel, Olsen said, “After spending so many years doing Marvel projects, I feel like the roles I take on now need to genuinely reflect my personal taste. I love being part of that universe and I’m proud of what I’ve done with the character, but it’s not really the kind of art I consume — and I’ve always been open about that.”
She originally took on the Marvel role seeing it as a modern-day myth — grand and culturally rich like ancient Greek epics. However, she acknowledged that the perception of Marvel has shifted within the industry. “In the past decade, it’s become almost controversial for actors to admit whether they’d do a Marvel movie or not,” she observed.
