Margot Robbie has revealed that why she is taking a break from acting and stepping behind the camera more regularly instead.
Robbie, the mastermind behind the blockbuster film Barbie and the actress portraying its titular character, revealed in a recent interview with Deadline that she’s considering taking a break from screens. She expressed a concern that audiences might be weary of seeing her everywhere, given the overwhelming success of the film.
Having risen to fame with her breakout role in the 2013 film Wolf of Wall Street, Robbie established her own production company, LuckyChap, in 2014. Through LuckyChap, she has produced notable films like Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn and Promising Young Woman, as well as the Suicide Squad spin-off Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Following the widespread visibility brought about by the success of Barbie, with Robbie’s face gracing billboards globally, the actress is contemplating whether it’s too soon to dive into another high-profile blockbuster role.
“Everyone’s like, ‘Are you having a break?’ And I’m like, ‘You do know I’m a producer, right? We don’t get a break,’” she said.
“I also think everyone’s probably sick of the sight of me for now. I should probably disappear from screens for a while.”
“Honestly, if I did another movie too soon, people would say, ‘Her again?'” Robbie said. We spent the entire summer working with her. We’ve moved on. I hope it’s a while off, but I’m not sure what I’ll do next.
At the Golden Globes on Sunday night (7 January), Barbie was awarded the inaugural Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, a category created to recognise films that both “garnered extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence”. While it only took home one award, Barbie, which was the highest-grossing film of 2023, received nine nominations at the Globes.
