A man attempted suicide by jumping from the upper floors of Masjid Al Haram in Makkah, as reported by Khaleej Times on Tuesday morning, according to the security authority in the Makkah region.
The man was swiftly taken to a hospital where he received necessary medical care. The Special Force for the Security of the Grand Mosque has launched an investigation into the incident. However, they have not disclosed the identity of the individual involved.
The authority stated that “the necessary procedures were completed” without providing further details about the incident.
In 2017, a Saudi man attempted to set himself on fire in front of the Kaaba – the square stone building in the center of the mosque compound – but was intercepted by security forces.
In 2018, three separate suicide-related incidents occurred at Masjid Al Haram. In early June, a Frenchman committed suicide by jumping off the mosque’s roof. Just over a week later, a Bangladeshi man also took his own life in a similar manner. Later in August that year, an Arab man tragically ended his life by jumping from the Grand Mosque.
