KARACHI: The owner of a lion, kept as a pet, has been arrested after the beast attacked a child in Gulberg area of Karachi.
A video of the incident which reportedly occurred on May 14 went viral showing the owner holding the lion. The child comes in close proximity when the wild animal suddenly pounced and mauled the child as bystanders tried to rescue him.
After the video went viral, Superintendent Police (SP) Gulberg Muhammad Azhar Khan took action and formed a joint investigative team involving DPO Shadman Town, SHO Samanabad and SHO Gulberg.
Police lodged a case and arrested the suspect Saad Aslam Siddiqui and his guard Roshan son of Kambo Khan. The suspect Saad said his brother Osama had taken the lion outside their house when it attacked the child. He said they have shifted the animal to their farmhouse.
A day earlier, Police stated that they have received information that the owner of the lion and injured child have reached a compromise. They added that the child was taken to a private hospital and his life is out of danger. According to media reports, the owner of the lion did not have a permit to keep the animal.
