India’s extremist religious pundits have apparently rejected the asceticism of former Indian actress Mamta Kulkarni, who ruled the film industry in the 90s, forcing her to resign from her religious position.
According to details, just a few days after being appointed as a religious official (Mahamandaleshwar) by Kinnar Akhada, Mamta Kulkarni resigned from her position due to strong opposition and internal conflicts. She uploaded a video on social media in which she appeared to be expressing her concerns.
In the video, Mamta Kulkarni, as Mai Mamta Nand Giri, announced her resignation from the position, stating, “The honor I was given was for my 25 years of ascetic devotion (Tapasya), but some people object to my assuming a religious position. My Bollywood career was used as a basis for this decision, which is regrettable.”
The former actress added, “I left Bollywood 25 years ago and completely disappeared. Who stays so far away from makeup and glamour? I spent 25 years in devotion with my Guru. I do not need to go to Kailash or the Himalayas because the entire world is in front of me.”
Labeling the hardline religious leaders who forced her to resign as egotistical, Mamta Kulkarni said, “These people fight among themselves and lack the ability to understand the truth. This position was a certificate for sharing knowledge, but perhaps this is a sign that I should step back. I return the position with gratitude.”
It is worth mentioning that soon after Mamta Kulkarni’s appointment, self-proclaimed Rishi Ajay Das told the media that Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, who had appointed Mamta Kulkarni as Mahamandaleshwar, was being removed from his position for violating national interest principles, as Mamta Kulkarni is named in a rebellion case.
