A new twist has emerged in the case of prisoner escape from Malir Jail in Karachi. The jail superintendent has reported nine more escaped prisoners than the originally stated number.
According to details, it has been revealed that 225 prisoners escaped from Malir Jail instead of 216, and the jail superintendent has written a letter to the investigation authorities regarding this matter.
The letter states that the number changed after a recount of the escaped prisoners. So far, 146 escaped prisoners have been caught, while 79 are still at large.
According to police, one prisoner committed suicide at his home in Mauripur, and one was killed by gunfire while attempting to escape. The updated list with details of additional escaped prisoners has been sent to police stations, and raids are being conducted to capture the fugitives.
The police report states that 107 prisoners have been caught from District Malir so far, 8 from District Korangi, 7 from District East, 7 from District South, 3 from District City, 3 from District Keamari, and 8 from District West. Police also stated that 6 prisoners have been caught from District Central.
It is to be noted that the prisoners escaped from Malir Jail by taking advantage of the earthquake, during which dozens managed to flee successfully. One prisoner was handed over to the police by his mother.
