Emmy Award-winning 54-year-old American actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner drowned and died while swimming in the sea in Costa Rica, as reported by national media.
Sources from law enforcement agencies confirmed to the news agency Reuters that Malcolm-Jamal Warner, who played Theo, the son of Bill Cosby, in the popular 1980s TV show The Cosby Show, lost his life while swimming in the sea in Costa Rica on Monday. Warner was in Costa Rica with his family on vacation.
The Central American country’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) confirmed that an American citizen with the last name Warner drowned after being swept away by a dangerous sea current. Red Cross lifeguards confirmed his death at the scene; however, the actor’s representatives did not immediately comment on the incident.
Meanwhile, the American civil rights organization NAACP shared a photo of the actor on Instagram and wrote: “Malcolm-Jamal Warner, may God grant you peace with honor and dignity. Your talent and spirit touched countless lives, and your legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
Warner received the NAACP’s Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series Award in 2012 for his performance in the comedy series Reed Between the Lines.
Fox Entertainment, in a condolence message issued on Monday, said: “Everyone at Fox is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend, colleague, and brilliant actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. From his comedic to serious roles, everything was unforgettable and timeless.”
