RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Police and Bomb Disposal Squad have foiled a major terror plot by defusing a bottle bomb found at the railway station on Wednesday.
According to sources, the police defused the bottle bomb filed with an artificial explosion. Police and law enforcement reached the spot after receiving information about the suspicious bag at the railway station.
During the inspection of the bag, a suspicious bottle was found in the bag with a mobile phone and two batteries as well as explosives, sources added.
Police cordoned off the area and called the Bomb Disposal Squad. Arriving at the scene, the bomb disposal squad defused the suspicious bomb with the help of an artificial explosion.
Earlier, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Punjab, had claimed to have arrested a terrorist of a banned outfit and foiled a terrorism plot here in the City.
According to a spokesperson for CTD, the officials got information about the presence of the suspect near Lahore Railway Station. The terrorist carrying explosives was waiting for a suicide bomber as they had planned to attack a sensitive office of LEA.
On this information, the CTD team raided the place and arrested terrorists namely Liaqat Khan before the arrival of a suicide bomber and recovered one suicide jacket, two hand grenades, a pistol 30-bore and six live bullets from his possession.
