Karachi: Former member of the National Assembly and President of the Isteikham-e-Pakistan Party Sindh, Mahmood Moulvi, has said that to curb the extravagant expenses of government officials and prevent wastage, the Gilgit-Baltistan model should be implemented nationwide, where government vehicles prominently display public ownership logos.
In his statement, the former assembly member stated that recently, the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr. Mahiuddin Ahmed, issued a commendable order to prominently display official logos on government vehicles to deter their unlawful use.
He mentioned that according to a report, more than 200,000 government vehicles are in use across all provinces and the federal government, and unfortunately, it has become common for these vehicles to be misused for personal luxuries. Children of government officials are often seen using government cars to leisurely tour recreational spots, which is unacceptable for a nation struggling with poverty.

Mahmood Moulvi pointed out that the misuse of government vehicles has become so rampant that officials and their families now consider these vehicles as their personal property, whereas these vehicles should only be used for official duties as per the rules.
He stated that more than two billion rupees are spent each month from the national treasury for the free petrol provided to over 200,000 government vehicles. He emphasized the need to amend the rules regarding government vehicles and return unnecessary vehicles while ensuring that their use is strictly limited to official duties.
