Afsheen Anjum has produced a beautiful portrait of Quaid-e-Azam, founder of Pakistan, using a macramé technique.
Hailing from Karachi, Afsheen Anjum has been doing macramé since 2014. It is a form of textile produced using knotting techniques. “I am doing macrame since 2014, and being a member of many social media international groups, I got to know many international macrame makers, I saw their work and got inspired.”
She shared that being a Pakistani, she always felt that it is her responsibility to attempt what others internationally doing, and as a Pakistan, no one else was doing it. She said that though at the international level there are also few who do these portraits, but for Afsheen, she just wanted to see Pakistan in the list and on the top.
“So I decided to attempt the macrame because I missed seeing Pakistan in the macrame portrait field and I wished to see Quaid e Azam portrait to be the first-ever done,” said Afsheen.
While talking to Afsheen, it was revealed that the skill but did not have the software to convert a picture into a macramé graph. According to Afsheen Anjum, she used to work 18 to 19 hours daily to produce this beautiful portrait of Quaid-e-Azam.
“This pixel art portrait is the new form they are making and doing portraits of their celebrities and all. While revealing her passion for the technique, Afsheen said, “I am a very passionate macrame artist and ask many to help me in getting graphs to work on, as I knew the skill but don’t have software to convert pictures into macrame graph.”
Eventually, Afsheen used a free cross-stitch website and got started and her sole motivation was to make Pakistan proud. “Finally, I used a free cross stitch website and get a picture graph.”
