Most of us would just buy another pair if we lost our AirPods, but a British YouTuber is not like most of us. He spent an entire year tracking down his lost $249 AirPods, watching them travel from Dubai to Pakistan—where he eventually went himself to recover them, with some help from the Punjab police.
As it goes, YouTuber Miles Routledge, known online as ‘Lord Miles’, lost his AirPods in a Dubai hotel. He enabled “Lost Mode,” which sent him alerts and location updates every time the AirPods came online.
Surprisingly, the devices didn’t stop there. Routledge watched them travel thousands of kilometers to the Pakistani city of Jhelum. He tracked their movements using Apple’s “Find My iPhone” feature over the course of a year and shared regular updates on social media, which quickly went viral.

“My AirPods Pro have been missing in Pakistan for the past year — and guess who’s coming to pick them up next week!” he wrote in a tweet, along with screenshots of their exact location.

And he was serious. Routledge made it to Jhelum, where he recovered his lost AirPods a year later with the help of local police.

The incident became a hot topic on the internet. Many users joked that it would have been cheaper to buy new AirPods, but the incident highlighted the cross-border effectiveness of Apple’s tracking technology. At the same time, the interesting campaign also greatly increased the popularity of its YouTube channel, and a small loss turned into big content.
