Lionel Messi, the world cup winner who is arguably the best player of all time, is coming to India if Kerala Sports Minister V Abdurahiman is to be believed. On Wednesday, the minister revealed that the Argentina football team, captained by Messi, would visit the state next year for an international match.
The Kerala minister, during a presser, expressed confidence in Kerala’s ability to host the historic occasion, adding that the match would be held under the supervision of the state government.
“Kerala is set to make history as FIFA World Cup Champions Argentina are expected to visit next year! This dream is becoming a reality thanks to the State Government’s efforts and the support of @AFASeleccionEN. Let’s gear up to welcome the champions and celebrate our love for football!” Pinarayi Vijayan said in his tweet.
It won’t be the first time the Argentinian megastar visiting India, he took part in an international friendly match against Venezuela held in India in 2011.
Messi, who led Argentina to the coveted 2022 FIFA World Cup title, enjoys an extraordinary fan following in India, traditionally a cricket-loving nation.
Messi joined Major League Soccer (MLS) side Inter Miami in 2023, after a short-stint with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
