LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has extended the hearing of wheat and sugar stocks in Punjab till 13th February.
LHC Chief Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh conducted the hearing in which the judge heard the petition against the case.
The petitioner stated that the wheat flour and sugar were available in quantity more. it was due to the mafia that created an artificial crisis.
The petition further stated that the feed mills have purchased wheat instead of the expensive corn.
According to the petition, around 2,50,000 tons of stocks have been purchased by the feed mills, while 4,00,000 tons of wheat have been exported.
The petitioner pleaded to the court to impose a ban over the export of the wheat and crackdown against the mafia involved in the wheat and sugar shortage.
The prices of wheat and sugar have skyrocketed in Punjab. A kilogramme of wheat now costs Rs46 and sugar prices have increased by Rs1.5 per kg.
The price of a 100kg bag of wheat has increased by Rs300 in the open market. In the wholesale market, a bag of wheat now costs Rs4,600.
On the other hand, the price of a 100kg bag of sugar has increased by Rs150 in the open market and the wholesale price of the commodity has increased from Rs66 to Rs67.5 per kg.
