KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Labor and PPP leader Saeed Ghani has warned Jamat-e-Islami (JI) against threatening administrative staff responsible for election related duties.
Addressing a press conference for the third consecutive day here on Wednesday, PPP leader Saeed Ghani alleged that JI workers and supporters took staff of DC West hostage, while the chief of JI Karachi Chapter Hafiz Naeemur Rahman personally threatened Commissioner which was inappropriate.
Saeed Ghani said “Hafiz Naeem spoke irresponsibly when accusing me of arranging re-counting for my brother, never expected such thing from a responsible person.” He asked JI to avoid disturbing peace in Karachi on the basis of a few issues, adding that PPP too had some reservations on few seats but it refrained from resorting to any unlawful tactic.
The Sindh Minister said JI was only asking on TV about the post of Mayor Karachi, while the PPP wanted to negotiate with JI on priority basis, adding that there could be solution if both parties sit and talk.
He said PPP were too were emotional and angry (over few results) but it was the prime responsibility of both the PPP and the JI to discourage the volatile environment and bring an end to the politics of hooliganism.
Saeed Ghani said “we want PPP’s Mayor for Karachi, but Hafiz Naeemur Rahman himself wants to become Mayor,” adding that when the two sides would sit and talk, PPP would convince the JI about its stance.
