In a tragic incident, a leopard attacked and killed a 9-year-old girl in Sangar North Dabaran village of the Pando sector, near the Line of Control (LoC) in Muzaffarabad’s Jhelum Valley.
According to local sources, the girl, daughter of Mustafa Awan, was playing in the veranda of her house when the leopard suddenly appeared and dragged her away.
Villagers immediately chased the animal, but the leopard fatally injured the child, sucking blood from her neck before throwing her body into nearby fields and escaping. After a three-hour search, the girl’s body was recovered. The horrific attack has left the local community in panic and fear.
This is not the first such incident in the region. In recent years, similar leopard attacks on children and livestock have been reported from Azad Kashmir, Murree, Abbottabad, and surrounding hilly areas. Due to deforestation and shrinking natural habitats, wild animals often venture into human settlements in search of food, leading to such tragic encounters.
Residents have demanded that the wildlife department take immediate measures to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of people living near forested areas.
