ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has stated that the last solar eclipse of 2020 will take place today.
The last total solar eclipse, however, will not be visible in Pakistan and the South Asian region. According to the PMD, the eclipse will be visible in South Africa, South America, the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean.
The eclipse will start at 6:34 pm and end at 11:53 pm Pakistan time. Astronomers said that a total solar eclipse occurs when the moon completely covers the sun.
Earlier, a solar eclipse was observed in Pakistan on 21st June 2020 and a 98 percent eclipse was observed in Sukkur. This year the sun eclipsed twice and the moon four times.

This year there were lunar eclipses on 10th January, 5th June, 4th and 30th July. The first solar eclipse in 2020 took place on 21st June and the second will take place today i.e. 14th December.
The first lunar eclipse of the year 2021 will take place on 26th May and the solar eclipse on 10th June 2021. As per the PMD’s Climate Data Processing Centre, an annular solar eclipse happens when the moon covers the sun’s centre. It leaves the sun’s visible outer edges to form a ‘ring of fire’ or annulus around the moon, the centre added.
