At least 12 members of a family, including nine children, were tragically killed in a massive landslide that struck their home in Upper Dir district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The devastating event occurred in the Maidan area during the early hours of Friday.
According to police reports, all 12 victims—two women, one man, and nine children—were recovered from the rubble and have been taken to the hospital for medico-legal procedures. Authorities are investigating the incident and working to support the affected families.
This disaster comes amid heavy monsoon rains sweeping across Pakistan. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted continued widespread rain and windstorms across the country over the next 24 hours.
The PMD warns that heavy rainfall is expected in several regions, including Sindh, northeast and south Balochistan, northeast and central Punjab, the Potohar region, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. The adverse weather conditions are likely to trigger additional landslides in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, and Kashmir.
Authorities and residents are urged to remain vigilant as the weather continues to pose significant risks across the region.
