LAHORE: Amid the growing number of COVID-19 infections, the Punjab government has reopened the field hospital set up earlier Lahore’s Expo Centre, according to a notification.
The provincial health department announced that the field hospital in Hall 2 of the centre will be reopened as the number of coronavirus cases in Punjab is rising. “The hospital will comprise 300 beds and will have high dependency units on each bed,” it added.
Critical patients facing difficulty breathing can be admitted there. Meanwhile, a high-alert has been declared at all large hospitals across the province. The managements have been instructed to make sure their high dependency units (HDUs) and intensive care units (ICUs) are prepared in case of emergencies.
The field hospital was first opened at the start of the coronavirus outbreak in the country in April. It was shut down after the number of cases dropped. Pakistan is currently battling with the second wave of the novel coronavirus.
In the last 24 hours, Pakistan reported 3,119 new cases and 44 deaths due to the COVID-19 as the positivity rate rises in the country. The positivity rate of coronavirus cases increased to 7.58 percent as compared to yesterday’s record of 7.3 percent.
